About me

About me

admin 04/10/2020

My name is Nick and I am a graphic artist and music junkie who lives in East Boston, one T-stop away from where all the magic happens on St. Patties Day. I grew up in upstate New York, passed through Rochester Institute of Technology to get my learn on, and moved out here in 2004. I’m a digital/graphic artist at Mullen, an ad agency in downtown Boston. When I’m not working, I’m probably at a bar or a club somewhere in the city. Or at home, trying to keep this blog as fresh as possible.
I’ve DJ’d since 2001 (but hasn’t everyone though) and honestly, there isn’t one specific genre or style I play (or won’t play) these days. Drum and bass was my main thing until about 3-4 years ago, now everything from house, minimal, UK bass, garage, to Baltimore club, hip hop, and pretty much ANYTHING that came out between 1992-94 is fair game. New and old, different tempos, vinyl, CD, or Serato, I’m probably in the house with it. I’m also been learning the ropes with production and dab quite a bit in Ableton and Reason. I’ve played under various monikers such as Nickdawg, Effective Res, and my real name, Nick Minieri.
Personally, I’m not one to write long ass DJ bios, so that’s all you’re gonna get 😉 Here are my mixes though.
You will often see me sporting a Canon SLR at parties around the city and New England from time to time. Event photography is a side gig of mine that I actually got into after starting this blog in 2009. Although some events I am the official photog, there are many events I take smaller numbers of pictures at just so I can get them up on here to help promote the event itself. Although I have almost 3 years of photog experience, and 8 years of Photoshop retouching experience on a professional level, I’m still trying to step up my game further! I have a three-year photo archive of hundreds of events I’ve shot around town, which you can check out here.
Boston Promoters: If you would like me to help promote your event, or want to book me either to DJ or shoot your party, let’s talk. [email protected]
Boston DJ’s & Producers: Feel free to send me any of your work for possible coverage on Beantown Boogiedown. I listen to everything I am given and always looking for content to post during the week.
Interesting facts about me: I never watched a single game of sports until I moved out here, now I bore people to tears talking fantasy football stats every single Monday morning between the months of September and December. I’m still a big fan of cheap beer (PBR and Keystone FTW), and I pretty much watch only two stations on TV (Food Network and Discovery). Oh yeah, I’m a vinyl record collector and buy wax for sampling, DJing, and of course just listening to. There’s just something about crate-digging I can’t seem to let go of even in the new world of digital, mobile, and QR-code everything. I especially like buying 90s breakbeat hardcore & house, as well as jazz, 1960s-70s soul, early 70s prog rock, and early 90s hip hop. Still buying a decent amount of current drum and bass on vinyl too!
